There's a Voluntary Social Car Scheme in the Armathwaite, Ainstable, High Hesket and Calthwaite area.
Neil Ruddick is the wonderful chap who acts as Co-ordinator.
The scheme provides transport to all members of the community of any age (under16’s must be accompanied by an adult) who cannot make their journey by public or private transport. Passengers pay 40p a mile and this is made up to 45p a mile by the County Council. Drivers are messaged with journey details and if they can fit it in, then they message back.
Could you help? Perhaps you drive to the U3A, Monday Club, Thursday Club, or Probus Club. Or perhaps you enjoy any other activity that someone without transport may also like to attend, such as badminton, bowling, film club, or shopping in Carlisle or Penrith or Brampton. Just one trip a year would share the load and make someone's day. If you can make that one extra local journey this year, or pick up someone else on your way, call Neil - you'll be doing something wonderful!
And of course if you have a journey that you need to make and don't know how else to make it, please contact Neil too.
